Stop Preparing to Not Act

Finding success resembles a rocket reaching escape velocity. Most of the fuel is spent trying to escape the earth's gravitational pull; after this stage, fuel consumption is much lower.
Our success is hindered by our self imposed limitations and removing these mental blocks is the uphill section of the road to success.
This is the first part of a series on the mindset shifts required to succeed. I will be releasing one a week for the next few weeks.
This week's essay is on the importance of transitioning from learning to action. And in the spirit of simply acting I devised this essay completely off the cuff. Two whole hours of focused writing with no outline or plan.
I did this to motivate you to take two hours and do what you have been thinking about for the last two months. Even if that is as simple as getting your mum some flowers.
Stop Preparing to Not Act
We should all spend a certain amount of our day learning new skills and acquiring information to make better decisions.
But all this knowledge is useless without any action.
We can know how to build a ship, but it is useless unless we take up hammers and nails.
No one has ever made a reality by theory alone. Theory requires action to be made manifest.
The problem is that so many of us wait for the theory to be perfect before we set out to make it a reality. We cannot start at the finish line. The theory will never become perfect until it is tested. Much like gold, it must be purified in the fire.
Perfection is impossible through theory. We can only begin to perfect what we first allow to exist materially in its raw, imperfect form.
But we instead delay starting because we feel so close to finding the missing piece that will make the theory perfect.
But this search is eternal. It is like an oasis that continues to move ahead as we get closer to it. That missing piece is fleeting. We fail to recognize that once that piece is attained, another will be required, and we will be stuck in this never-ending cycle of trying to complete an ever-growing puzzle.
Awaiting the flawless plan is the most dangerous form of stagnation because it all seems like progress in our minds.
So we spend our time and money trying to acquire these pieces. And there is nothing wrong with that; it is necessary to find success, but it will never get us anywhere.
Only action itself can advance you.
The law of marginal utility applies to learning.
There is a limit to how much you can learn until it takes more time than just figuring out how to make it work yourself.
Sometimes it is faster and cheaper to forge the missing pieces ourselves than trying to outsource. And that ability to form original solutions is necessary regardless, so we might as well apply it more often. Trying to figure it out ourselves is often our last resort when it should be a constant all along, even when outsourcing.
Every situation is unique, and you will encounter new challenges never seen before, so we must be willing to go to war ourselves and make it work out of sheer will.
Knowledge is a hammer, and it does nothing without the energy of its user.
We must iterate and adapt as we go along, never ceasing to act, avoiding the chase for the unattainable perfection of theory.
So I implore you to seek action this week. Stop rewarding the idea of action; it is all simply hits of dopamine. Seek instead real progress and get used to that reward system because it requires a lot more work before it pays out. Increase the threshold of work you are willing to do unrewarded. Unrewarded work compounds, the check will come due and you get to cash it.
But more on that next week.
